OUR HISTORY 1949-2024
This year Mitchell Group Australia is celebrating 75 years of business.
In 1949, Alex Mitchell started “Payntfast”, a small family business in Flinders Street, Melbourne. Peter Mitchell joined his father in 1954 and in 1957 Alex and Peter worked together to develop a cut-to-size Laminex operation.
In 2001, Mitchell’s expanded its’ operations by establishing Mitchell Plastics, becoming the exclusive Australian and New Zealand Distributor for Perspex®.
Fast forward to 2024 and you will find Peter’s children Brett, Marcus and Shane Mitchell continuing to work in the business. Materials and technologies may have changed over the last 75 years, but Mitchell’s values and vision remain the same,

As a family-owned business for over 75 years, Mitchell Group Australia has built a reputation within the kitchen and cabinet making, shopfitting, acoustic pinboard and acrylic industries for treating our customers like family.
Whether it’s an order for one sheet or one hundred, Mitchell’s service is the same. We believe in give customers exceptional service which sets us apart from other suppliers in the industry.
Most recently we have extended our services to create a one stop shop. Beyond supplying sheets precured from the best brands, we offer precision cutting and design services to meet the unique needs of our customers. Our customers trust us to fabricate the materials that we specialise in.
It’s such a special year celebrating 75 years of business. I am incredibly proud to see my three sons working in the business that their grandfather Alex Mitchell created in 1949. Their father Peter Mitchell felt privileged to share his knowledge with his sons. Both Alex and Peter Mitchell would be immensely happy to see how the family business remains to grow today.
